Actually I was very happy to hear about Obama's decision to allow guns in National Parks, which might suprise those that that know i've been (and still am) pursuing a career in the NPS.

Much of it stems from my personal experience. As a nature photographer and hiker I often go off trail. I've run into meth labs, hostile hobo camps, cult ceremonies, and had someone try to rob me. I've also hiked in an area with decapitated bodies within a 2 mile radius and was part of a rescue squad that was first on the scene for a murdered elderly couple.

I carry my 9mm with me anyways, but now I can atleast do it legally.

I think it should depend on the particular park. Some of these parks are fairly small with a high density of people. Niagra Falls comes to mind or Mt. Desert Island. Any guns being carried there should be by park rangers. If you have remote areas with the potentials that PPS mentioned, I have not too many objections.

Yeah, accidents, which I already addressed and you conveniently ignored, not "bucket death" which is what you falsely stated!

But when you compare death by handguns our number are more comparable to a third world country then the rest of the civilized world.

And either big mean ol' Obama is taking your guns away -or- he doesn't have the power to take your guns away? Which is it? You don't get to claim both.

Also 'bucket death' is a pretty awesome phrase . . . I'll been hoping for an opportunity to interject the phrase 'bucket death' into my everyday conversations . . . sadly to no avail.

And you missed mine ie that in children under five (5) FIVE handgun deaths are extraordinarily rare. And I'd damn near bet you that probably 80 to 90% of gun deaths 14 and under are heavily concentrated in the 12 - 14 group among those 12-14 year olds having the grave misfortune to live in public housing

And Unknown having added little other than the usual leftist tom foolery appears to have left the building.

Patom Sorry but in most parks I worry more about the people than the bears.

I've been carrying into our parks from the time I was a teenager. Not legally back then of course, but they have helped me out in a couple of different ways. From snakes to the "good ol boys", my guns and tactics have protected me and provided the confidence to overcome. My parents were wise enough to instill in me a respect for guns and the damage they can do. unfortunately, I've been shot before. It isn't fun to say the least, but I don't blame the gun that shot me. I blame the idiot that pulled the trigger. That being said, I think every home should be equipped with not only A gun but several! When you buy tools, you don't normally just buy one socket, or one wrench. Each has it's own purpose and application. Thus the need for more than one gun is appropriate I believe.
